Glass skin is history, Dolphin skin makeup has come to stay!
If you’ve ever been lucky enough to see a dolphin emerging from the waves with all its glistening glory, then you’ll know what skin texture I am talking about! Never in our wildest dreams thought that dolphins would be our beauty inspiration, did we? Well, 2021 is one experimental year, so might as well get on-board with it!
This skin trend was popularised by Mary Phillips. She is the makeup artist to various Hollywood celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Jennifer Lopez. Dolphin Skin is the Latest Highlighter Technique. Just like the smooth, flawless, reflective, plump skin of the aquatic mammal. This trend attempts to bestow you with a fresh-out-of-the-water kind of a dewy look with a pearlescent glow. (And trust me, you only need two good things to rock 2021- caffeine and Dolphin.)
Glass skin OR Dolphin skin
Which one is best for you, we leave it to your discretion
• Glass skin aims to evoke the idea of a crystal clear piece of glass. This means that it’s all about skin that looks completely clear. Poreless, dewy, baby-soft skin is the ultimate goal. Whereas, Dolphin skin is an add on to the dewy skin with an emphasis on ultra-hydration with eye-blinding sheen. It’s about using a highlighter to give dimension to the high points of the face and grab all the attention there. And yes, you do need to go a little extra with your highlighter to get this look. Any skin tone can rock the dolphin look, a glossy glowing complexion is universal!
• Since glass skin is a combination of internal and external factors, its effects are far from instant. It can take weeks to months for its effects to show on your skin. Dolphin skin is primarily a makeup trend so its radiance is immediate. However, there is a chance of going overboard if one isn’t careful enough else it can look greasy.

Oh, come on! Lift your dropped jaw now and worry not! We have got you covered.
Tip: To achieve this perfect all-over glow, you will need a good highlighter. Let’s read about the steps to flaunt an amplified glowing skin.
To be perfectly honest, this is more of a makeup-centered trend. Therefore what you do before is crucial for setting the stage. Preparing and Prepping your skin is the key to maximizing this dewy, hyper-radiant look. Even if you’ve been naughty and have not paid much attention to your skin-care routine, there are some instant solutions you can use before adding your glowing makeup elements.
Prepping:
* Exfoliate your skin before you begin to put makeup on your face canvas.
* Rub an ice cube to tone the skin tight and then ensure to moisturize your skin with a hydrating oil for a glowing finish.
* Once the makeup settles it should look like your internal glow.
1. Begin with an illuminating primer
Just like I said before, you don’t need flawless skin to get the look, you just need some seriously good skin preparation. So use a hydrating, illuminating primer to amp up your radiance. If you are looking for that perfect product for you. I suggest you try Matra Rose Gold Illuminating Beauty Oil as Primer. It helps enhance overall complexion, decreases depletion of collagen, increases skin elasticity, treats tan, reverses pollution and UV damage. Not only that, but it also softens skin and gives it gold like radiance making it soft, supple, and glossy.
So, the first step to get the base right – CHECK (✓ )
2. Use a glow-giving foundation with highlighter drops.
Adding a few drops of your liquid highlighter to your foundation at this stage gets the glisten going. Foundation wise you should look for something lightweight.
3. SHIMMER? Bring it on…
And now for the part, you’ve been waiting for: adding the “dolphin” dew. Do not forget that the strategy here is all about adding shine to targeted areas so you look gleaming, not as if you just dunked your head in an oil can.
So once your base is in place, start layering different textures (blush, balm, and highlighter) onto the high points of your face. Different finishes will add depth to your shine and enhance dimension. Make sure your layers are seamlessly blended as you don’t want to be able to see any edges of the product.
Attention, please!
Products that should not be a part of your kit, when thinking of dolphin skin makeup.
One should avoid matte products and sidestep highlighters that have large particle shimmer. The reason being- these will create more texture on the skin, defeating the smooth sheen you’re trying to achieve.
Also, note that avoiding glittery and shimmery highlighters (luminous is better) and swerve setting sprays with alcohol is recommended. This will dry everything out and defeat your skin goal. Super-rich creams should be avoided on dolphin days too, as they can make everything slide off. And you would not want that right?
After taking the trend for a test run on me, I can confidently say that this is an easy way to dive into the glowing-skin trend. So are you ready to glisten, gleam, and be seen?!
If you need me, I’ll be applying highlighter and pretending to be a mermaid until 2021 is over.
